Sometimes children are bad people too, says Cate Blanchett in the trailer of Hanna, the new film by Joe Wright to be released later in 2011. That Saoirse Ronan, who plays the title role here, can be a naughty girl is clear since her breakthrough performance in Atonement, where her lies were the pivotal plot element of the film and the origin of the misfortune and unhappiness of Keira Kneightley and James McAvoy.
The film tells the story of Hanna, a teenage girl who has been trained and raised by her father (Eric Bana) to become the perfect assassin.
This new twist on the modern myth of Nikita is a somewhat odd choice for director Wright, who is best known for thr films adaptations of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.
Ronan, who is arguably the best young actress working today together with Elle Fanning, could land the coming-of-age role any young actor needs in the difficult transition from child stardom to adult acting. Moreover, she teams up with director Wright, who led her to an Oscar nomination for Atonement. Apart from Bana as her father, the cast includes Cate Blanchett as a ruthless intelligence operative and the great Olivia Williams.
