BAFTA nominations announced

The nominations for the 2011 British Academy Film Awards have just been announced. The King's Speech unsurprisingly leads the nominations with 14 nods.

Since the first round of voting had previously been announced, there are no major surprises in the announcement, except the one that I had anticipated in a previous entry in the blog (click here to see): Noomi Rapace has pulled off an upset nomination in the Best Actress category over performers favoured in other awards, most notably Jennifer Lawrence and Nicole Kidman. The film (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) also appears in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

BAFTA longlists, foreign film and Rising Star nominations announced

Following a somewhat weird but deeply-rooted custom, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the longlist of entries after the first round of members' voting for the BAFTA. The longlist (see below) is the list of 15 names from which members of the British Academy will pick the final nominees that will be announced next Tuesday, January 18.
