San Sebastian 2011 preview: Michael Fassbender and Steve McQueen to present 'Shame'

Yesterday two fellow bloggers and yours truly agreed to jointly take on questions and suggestions in our twitter accounts from colleagues and readers to pass on guests and attendees to the 59th San Sebastian Film Festival. We forgot, however, to explicitly warn against asking for current-man-of-the-hour Michael Fassbender's telephone number.

San Sebastian 2011 preview: 'Tyrannosaur', a film by Paddy Considine

I already said in a previous entry about this year's San Sebastian Film Festival that one of the most appealing sections in the fest is the Zabaltegi-Pearls, a conveniently named selection of gems from this year's major festivals crop.

One of the films included in the section is British actor Paddy Considine's feature directing debut Tyrannosaur, a film that earned awards for director Considine and stars Olivia Colman and Peter Mullan earlier in the year at the Sundance Film Festival.

I'll get back to the film during the festival as I just confirmed interviews with Considine and Olivia Colman. In the meantime, check out the trailer after the jump.

The Tree of Life wins Palme d'Or at Cannes

I was going to a late screening of Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life last night when news reached me that the film had just been awarded this year's Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. I therefore entered the movie theatre with an increased anticipation for a film that, regardless of the Cannes accolades, I had been fiercely looking forward to. I will certainly come back to the film in the following months, since the award at Cannes will most likely bring it some attention later in the awards season, but for now suffice it to say that, although I don't know most of the other entries aspiring to the Cannes trophy, I'm more than pleased with the decision taken by Robert de Niro's jury.
